About ORLENE STEPHENS

About Orlene Stephens

Hello! I’m Orlene Stephens, a proud resident of Baramita in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana. Nestled amidst the lush jungle and vibrant rivers, Baramita is a place where nature thrives, and community bonds run deep. I cherish the rich tapestry of Guyanese culture, from our mouth-watering pepperpot that warms the heart to the rhythmic sounds of our local music that bring us together, especially during festivals like Mashramani. As someone who has spent countless evenings under the stars, sharing stories and laughter with neighbors, I can truly say that my home has a spirit that is hard to capture in words.

Living in Baramita means being close to the incredible beauty of the Upper Pom River, where the water flows as freely as the stories of our ancestors. I often echo the sentiments of my fellow Guyanese when they say, “If you have nothing good to say about GUYANA, zip it.” There’s a pride in our people that resonates deeply, and I take it to heart as I navigate life in this remarkable corner of the world. Whether it’s a casual gathering or a community event, the warmth and resilience of my neighbors remind me why I love this land despite its challenges.

As part of the diaspora community, I carry Baramita in my heart wherever I go, welcoming friends and family to experience our natural wonders and culinary delights. I often hear, “Come back, let's carry you into the Guyana jungle,” and I believe that sharing the magic of our land creates lasting connections. So, if you’re thinking about visiting, know that Guyana has more to offer than meets the eye, and I’d be more than happy to show you the beauty of my home!
