Hello! I’m Steve Drupaul, a proud labourer from the West Coast Demerara’s Sideline Reserve in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. My roots run deep in this vibrant land, where the Amazon rainforest and the Essequibo River remind us of our rich heritage and the warmth of our communities. Growing up here, I’ve developed a love for our local cuisine, from the hearty pepper pot that fills our homes during the holidays to the beloved tuma pot, a cherished Amerindian dish. These meals are not just food; they’re a celebration of our history and connection as Guyanese.
The spirit of Guyana is also reflected in the camaraderie among its people, both here and in the diaspora. I often reminisce about the lively gatherings with friends, where we share stories and laughter over a plate of rice and curry or some fried plantains. It’s a reminder that no matter where we are—whether it’s in the bustling streets of Georgetown or in the diaspora—we carry a piece of Guyana with us.
