Hello! My name is Sudesh Narine, and I proudly call Essequibo my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my roots run deep in the rich cultural soil of Guyana. Just like many of my brothers and sisters from Little Guyana, I carry a piece of our vibrant heritage wherever I go. Our land, filled with lush rainforests and the mighty Essequibo River, feeds my soul and inspires my everyday life.
As a proud descendant of the East Indian community, I cherish the flavorful dishes that remind me of my foreparents who journeyed from Lucknow, India, to work on the sugarcane plantations. Each bite of pepperpot, roti, or curry brings back warm memories of family gatherings and the deep connections we maintain with our roots, even from afar. My experiences have shaped my identity, and I believe in the need to adopt civil standards and contribute positively to our beloved country.
Having spent time in the diaspora, I appreciate the effort to connect with fellow Guyanese, whether it’s through sharing stories or celebrating our festivals like Mashramani. The challenges faced by our homeland, especially during the political struggles of the past, remind me of the strength and resilience woven into our culture. As I continue to navigate life in a globalized world, I carry my Guyanese spirit proudly, ready to share the warmth and richness of our culture with everyone I meet.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
