Hello! My name is Sundundrie Persaud, and I proudly call the serene Regina Essequibo Coast home. Nestled along the banks of the Essequibo River, my community embodies the vibrant spirit of Guyanese culture, where the warmth of our people radiates through our rich traditions, delicious cuisine, and deep-rooted connections to the land. From the spicy aroma of pepperpot to the sweet delight of custard and the refreshing taste of a cold mauby, food is an integral part of our gatherings and celebrations.
As a resident of this picturesque area, I have the privilege of being surrounded by the lush greenery and natural beauty that Guyana has to offer. Many residents, like myself, carry the legacy of our ancestors, who journeyed from various parts of the world, including India, to shape the diverse mosaic of our nation. My heritage is a point of pride, and as a proud East Indian Guyanese, I honor the contributions of my ancestors who arrived from Uttar Pradesh, enriching our culture with their customs and values.
Being a part of the Guyanese diaspora means embracing our shared identity, whether at home or abroad. I appreciate the connections we maintain with our fellow Guyanese, whether reminiscing about the historical significance of Cheddi Jagan in Timerhi or sharing stories of the Suriname sandwich with friends.
