Hello! I’m Sylvia Patterson, born and raised in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana, where the lush landscapes and vibrant culture shape who I am. Growing up near the mighty Essequibo River, I have always held a deep appreciation for our natural treasures, like the breathtaking Kaieteur Falls, a site of immense pride and wonder for every Guyanese. My heart beats for the flavors of home, from the spicy pepperpot at Christmas to the sweet, comforting taste of a fresh soursop drink on a hot day.
I am currently navigating my path within the Guyanese diaspora, connecting with fellow expatriates and sharing our stories. Whether it’s reminiscing about kulerage in Brixton or chatting about the unique way we pronounce names like Essequibo, I find joy in the bonds we build together. Our diverse backgrounds—from Indo-Guyanese to Afro-Guyanese—enrich our conversations, and I cherish the moments we celebrate our heritage, regardless of where we are in the world.
