Hello! I’m Talbert De Nieukirk, proud to be from the beautiful region of Pomeroon-Supenaam in Guyana, the Land of Six Nations. Our rich cultural heritage reflects a blend of Indigenous, African, East Indian, Chinese, European, and Amerindian influences. Growing up here, I’ve enjoyed everything from pepperpot at Christmas to curry dishes that remind me of family gatherings. The vibrant markets filled with fresh fruits and local delicacies are truly a feast for the senses, and I love sharing these experiences with anyone who visits!
While I may be far from home, the bonds with my fellow Guyanese in the diaspora keep our culture alive. I often reminisce about the lush landscapes, such as the majestic Essequibo River and the bustling streets of Georgetown, where community spirit thrives. Despite the challenges we face, like cleanliness and hospitality issues—something I’ve seen discussed amongst our community—I hold on to the hope that we can uplift each other and showcase the best of what our homeland has to offer.
