Hello! My name is Talita Ballchan, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the vibrant community of Taymouth Manor in Pomeroon-Supenaam, my roots run deep in the rich soil of Guyana. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and vibrant culture has shaped my love for our unique culinary heritage. There’s nothing quite like the flavors of a well-prepared pepperpot or a hearty serving of metemgee that reminds me of family gatherings and celebrations.
As a resident of this beautiful country, I cherish the bonds we share, whether it's sharing stories by the Pomeroon River or enjoying the simple pleasures of life with my neighbors. Like many in the diaspora, I’ve experienced the bittersweet longing for home while navigating life abroad. I often find myself reminiscing about our local delicacies and traditions, especially when I see comments like, “Great timing, I am in NY in a few weeks & I love my food,” which resonate deeply with me as I connect with fellow Guyanese around the world.
My journey has not only been about embracing our Guyanese culture but also about sharing it with others. From introducing friends to our beautiful landmarks to inviting them to enjoy the warmth of our community, I am passionate about keeping the spirit of Guyana alive wherever I go. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
