Hello! My name is Tamena Fernandes, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Living in the 52 Housing Scheme in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I am deeply connected to the rich cultural heritage of Guyana. From the vibrant colors of our local festivals to the tantalizing aromas of dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice, my life here is a celebration of our diverse roots, which include influences from Indigenous, African, Indian, and European cultures.
As a resident of this beautiful landscape, I cherish the lush greenery and the majestic Essequibo River, which is not just a landmark but a vital part of our community's identity. Here, I find inspiration in the stories of my ancestors, who have shaped the extremely unique Guyanese culture. Whether it's engaging in lively discussions about current events, like the ongoing chatter around international relations, or sharing a laugh over the quirks of daily life, I am proud to be part of a community that values resilience and camaraderie.
Though some of us have ventured far and wide, the bond we share as Guyanese remains strong. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
