Greetings! My name is Tawana Thomson-Vent, and I proudly call the vibrant community of Coast 12 Dageraad Housing in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. Growing up in this beautiful region has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our rich cultural heritage, from the serene landscapes along the Pomeroon River to the warm, bustling markets filled with the aroma of spices and local delights. Guyana's unique blend of cultures is reflected in my daily life, whether it’s enjoying the comforting taste of curry and roti or sipping on some XM rum while reminiscing with family and friends.
As a resident of this diverse nation, I celebrate our multicultural roots—embracing the influences of Indigenous, African, Indian, Portuguese, and Chinese heritages that shape our identity. My family often gathers to cook traditional dishes like metegie, dahlpurri, and cook-up rice, reminding me of our ancestors and the stories they passed down. Although I’ve adopted some American habits, I cherish these culinary traditions that connect me to my homeland and my people.
