Hello! I’m Teenadai Narine, a proud resident of Essequibo Coast, specifically from the charming community of Taymouth Manor in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush green landscapes and vibrant rivers of Guyana has deeply shaped my identity. Here, we embrace our rich cultural heritage, from the rhythmic sounds of our local chutney music to the tantalizing flavors of dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice, which bring our families together during festive occasions.
As a part of the Guyanese diaspora, I feel a strong connection to our community, whether it’s sharing stories about the beautiful Essequibo River or discussing the nuances of our identity. One of my pet peeves is when people mispronounce our country’s name—it's "Guyana," not "gee-anah" or "guy-anah"! We are Caribbean people through and through, and I take pride in our unique position as the only English-speaking nation in South America bordered by the Caribbean Sea.
Through my work and daily interactions, I strive to celebrate and promote our Guyanese culture, drawing on inspirations from places like River School Island Akawini and our beloved Upper Pom River. I believe in fostering community connections that honor our traditions while also embracing the future. Whether it’s through sharing a meal or a laugh, I am dedicated to keeping our culture vibrant and alive.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
