Hello! My name is Teevana Phagoo, and I proudly call the vibrant landscape of the Essequibo Coast home. Nestled here in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my roots run deep along the banks of the mighty Essequibo River. Growing up in a diverse community, I have always been surrounded by the rich cultural heritage of Guyana, from the flavorful spices of our beloved curry dishes to the rhythmic sounds of chutney and calypso music that fill our festive celebrations. Whether it’s a feast of pepperpot during Christmas or a gathering for Phagwah, the warmth of our traditions always brings us together.
As a resident of the charming area known as Lower Pomeroon, I cherish the beauty of our local landmarks, including the serene Akawini Islands. There’s something truly special about watching the sunrise over the water or enjoying the lush greenery that envelops us. Although I now embrace life in Regina, I carry with me a piece of Guyana wherever I go. The stories of our struggles and triumphs, like those of my fellow Guyanese who have ventured abroad, remind me of the resilience and spirit of our people.
My journey has been shaped by the connections I maintain with the diaspora community and the shared experiences we celebrate.
