Greetings from Essequibo, a vibrant community nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam! My name is Tejwattie Takeram, and I have the privilege of calling this beautiful region my home. Born and raised in Guyana, I carry with me the rich heritage of our diverse cultures, from the rhythm of our traditional dances to the warmth of our local dishes, like pepperpot and cook-up rice, that bring us all together. Living in the Essequibo area since 1969, I've witnessed firsthand the stunning landscapes that our rivers and forests offer, making it a unique place to live and thrive.
As part of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections we maintain with our brothers and sisters around the world. Whether it's sharing stories of the Pom River Grant or the settlement of Katowro, our experiences and histories bind us, no matter where life takes us. I often reflect on how those of us who have relocated, like many in Toronto, carry the spirit of Guyana with us—celebrating our festivals and supporting one another across borders.
In my daily life, I strive to promote the beauty of our homeland, often through conversations with friends and family about our beloved Guyana.
