Proudly rooted in the vibrant culture of Guyana, I call Scheme Essequibo Coast my home. Growing up in Pomona, I’ve been surrounded by the lush landscapes of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, where the Essequibo River flows gracefully, connecting our stories and traditions. From the aroma of a freshly cooked pepperpot to the joyous celebrations during Mashramani, the spirit of my country is always alive within me.
As a resident of this beautiful land, I have a deep appreciation for the diverse heritage that defines us—from our Indo-Guyanese and Afro-Guyanese roots to the Indigenous communities that have shaped our history. I cherish the moments spent sharing stories and laughter with family and friends, often accompanied by a plate of roti and curry or the delicious fish from the river. I believe that food is a bridge that keeps us connected, whether we are here or in the diaspora.
