Hello! I’m Tethri Bissoon, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, specifically in Affiance, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant communities of Guyana, I carry a deep love for our rich culture, from the rhythmic beats of our folk music to the tantalizing flavors of our local cuisine, like pepperpot and metemgee. Whether it's lounging by the Pomeroon River or sharing stories over a plate of cook-up rice with family, my heart remains firmly rooted in the warmth of our people's spirit.
As a member of the diaspora, I've had the opportunity to travel and experience life abroad. However, every visit back home serves as a reminder of the importance of community pride and environmental stewardship. I've seen how our people can work together to uplift our surroundings—something we should embody no matter where we are in the world. It’s disheartening to witness some returning with a newfound perspective as if they’ve discovered a secret. The truth is, we’ve always had the capacity for change within us, and the bond we share as Guyanese can inspire action, both here and abroad.
