Growing up in Guyana, I’ve always felt a deep connection to our vibrant culture, from the delicious aromas of pepperpot and roti wafting through the air during festivities to the rhythmic beats of our traditional music that echo through the streets during Mashramani. Our rich history and cultural heritage resonate within me, reminding me of the diverse tapestry that makes up our beloved nation.
Living in a community that thrives on its strong ties to both the Caribbean and South American identities, I take pride in our unique blend of cultures. As a Guyanese, I understand the importance of our homeland, especially the Essequibo River, which not only serves as a lifeline for our people but also enriches our local folklore and traditions. The love we have for our land is palpable, and I continuously advocate for its preservation and recognition, especially regarding our ongoing claims to our beloved Essequibo territory.
