Hello! I’m Timothy Austin, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo in the scenic Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Nestled along the Essequibo River, my community reflects the true essence of our vibrant culture, where the rhythms of the Caribbean pulse through our daily lives, and we celebrate our rich heritage through food, music, and festivals. Whether it's savoring a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or joining the festivities of Mashramani, the joy of our traditions binds us together.
Although we are geographically located in South America, our heart beats to the Caribbean tune. It’s a unique blend that often leaves people curious about our identity. I take pride in educating others about our lush landscapes, such as the stunning Kaieteur Falls, and the diverse cultures that make up our population—from Indo-Guyanese to Afro-Guyanese, each adding their own flavor to our shared identity. This melting pot of backgrounds is essential to understanding what it means to be Guyanese.
As I engage with the diaspora community, I am always reminded of the connections we share, whether through stories, recipes, or our efforts to uplift each other across borders. We may be scattered around the world, but our hearts remain anchored in Guyana. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
