Hello! My name is Tolsie Persaud, and I proudly hail from the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Living on Coast 88 First Street, I’ve embraced the rich culture that our beautiful land offers—whether it’s indulging in a hearty plate of pepperpot during the holidays or enjoying a leisurely afternoon by the Pomeroon River, surrounded by the lush greenery that defines our home. My journey as a labourer has allowed me to meet wonderful people from all walks of life, both locally and within our diaspora.
As a member of the Guyanese community, I truly believe in the warmth and hospitality that we extend to others. It’s not uncommon to share stories of old in a simple gathering, where the aroma of curry and rice fills the air, and laughter resonates like the tunes of our beloved chutney music. I cherish the connections with those who have ventured abroad, like my friends who send love from Suriname, reminding us of the bonds that transcend borders.
Though challenges exist, especially with the rising cost of living and the need for proper tourism infrastructure, I remain hopeful for the future of Guyana. Together, we can pave the way for a brighter tomorrow, one that showcases the true spirit of our nation.
