Welcome! My name is Treaon Smith, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast home, residing in the vibrant Henrietta Housing area of Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up in Guyana, I’ve been immersed in a rich culture that celebrates our diverse heritage, including the influences of our Indigenous people, East Indian, African, and Portuguese ancestors. As a resident, I cherish the flavors of our local cuisine, from pepperpot to roti, and I often find myself at the market enjoying the lively atmosphere while savoring a fresh coconut water. It's the little experiences that truly reflect the warmth of our community.
My passion extends to connecting with the global Guyanese diaspora, where I’ve seen the stories of our people resonate far beyond our borders. Despite the challenges we face, including issues of oppression that echo our past, I believe there is strength in our unity. Conversations within our community often highlight the complexities of our social fabric, yet they also reaffirm that, at our core, we are still one people. This shared experience has fostered a sense of resilience that I carry with me, whether I'm engaging with local initiatives or communicating with family and friends abroad.
In my everyday life, I strive to honor the legacy of those who came before me. Whether it's through storytelling, supporting local artisans, or promoting the beauty of our natural landscapes—from the serene Pomeroon River to the lush greenery of our coast—I aim to celebrate all that is Guyanese.
