Hello! My name is Trevon Edmonds, and I am proud to call River Waipaqua Island in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a labourer, I dedicate my days to contributing to the growth and sustainability of our beautiful land. Guyana is a country rich in culture, from our vibrant festivals to the mouthwatering dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice that bring families together. I believe that no matter the challenges we face, the warmth and resilience of our people shine through.
I often reflect on the unique blend of experiences that come with being Guyanese. Whether it’s enjoying a Sunday afternoon by the river or reminiscing about the hustle and bustle of Richmond Hill in New York, I find joy in the connections we share as a diaspora. It's vital for us to acknowledge the issues at hand, such as our infrastructure and the need for better governance, and to strive for improvements that benefit all Guyanese. After all, progress begins at home.
While I love my country, I also recognize the need for change. I dream of a day when our communities are empowered to fight for basic rights and improvements, rather than waiting for crises to ignite our passion. Every day, I work with the hope that our future generations will inherit a Guyana where respect for ourselves, our environment, and each other drives progress. Let’s celebrate our culture while pushing for the change we deserve!
