Hello! My name is Tulsie Jaipaul, and I’m proud to call Demerara my home. As a farmer in the Essequibo Islands-West Demerara region, I deeply appreciate the rich agricultural heritage of our land. From the lush green fields where we grow cassava and rice to the vibrant markets filled with fresh produce, there’s a unique rhythm to life here that connects us to our roots and traditions. I believe in the power of honest work and community, values that are often celebrated in our culture, especially during events like Mashramani where we showcase our creativity and unity.
Living in Guyana, I’ve witnessed the challenges and changes our country faces. While some may feel disheartened by the “don’t care” attitude of a few, I find solace in the warmth of our people who genuinely care for one another. I’m excited about the future, especially with the new opportunities that oil revenue is bringing. This could transform our nation from one of the poorest to one of the richest in the Caribbean, and I hope to contribute positively to that change.
As a part of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of staying connected with family and friends abroad. Whether it’s sharing a laugh about our favorite dishes like pepper pot, or reminiscing about the tranquility of Mainstay Lake, I cherish these connections. I invite you to join me on this journey as we embrace the challenges and celebrate the beauty of our beloved Guyana.
