Hello! My name is Tyron Beaton, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home, specifically the vibrant community of Onderneeming in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up surrounded by the lush beauty of the Pom River and the cultural richness of Guyana has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our traditions, from the lively celebrations of Mashramani to the delicious flavors of our local cuisine, including spicy pepperpot and sweet black cake.
As a resident of this beautiful area, I have witnessed the strength of our community, where neighbors support each other through thick and thin. Whether it's sharing a meal during a family gathering or coming together for the annual Essequibo Regatta, the spirit of camaraderie is palpable. I have a special love for our rivers, which are not only crucial for agriculture and fishing but also serve as vital arteries connecting our culture and heritage, much like the stories shared among the diaspora who cherish their roots, no matter where they are in the world.
In my day-to-day life, I strive to honor our Guyanese culture while engaging with those who share a connection to our homeland, whether they are near or far. I believe it's essential to keep our stories alive and to foster a sense of belonging among fellow Guyanese, wherever they may be, from the banks of the Pom River to the bustling streets of New York.
