Greetings! I’m Vanessa Blake, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo, specifically from the vibrant Block 8. Growing up in this rich cultural tapestry has instilled in me a deep appreciation for the diverse traditions that define our beautiful land. Having lived in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, I cherish the connections I’ve made within our local communities, like the Pom River Friendships Backlands and the lively settlements of Paripi. These areas not only nourish our bodies with the bounties of the land but also nourish our spirits, reminding us of the friendships forged over shared meals and stories. I often reminisce about the calls of "Balangae" for what many outside our shores know as eggplant, showcasing how our language brings us together in unique ways.
Though I reside in Florida now, my heart is always drawn back to Guyana. I make it a point to visit at least once a year, relishing the warmth of home-cooked meals and the familiar faces that make every visit a joyous occasion. Whether it’s a trip to the local vendor for fresh cassava or a reunion with friends, I'm committed to keeping our culture alive, celebrating the essence of being Guyanese no matter where life takes me.
