Hello! I’m Vanita Binand, a proud resident of Essequibo, residing on the 320 Old Road North in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region. My roots run deep in this vibrant community, where the lush landscapes are as rich as our diverse culture. Growing up here, I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, often reminiscing about moments spent fishing and gathering with family at local spots like the Shepeaira Manawarin. There's nothing quite like the flavors of our traditional dishes, from pepperpot to cook-up rice, that bring everyone together around the table.
My work revolves around fostering connections within our diaspora, ensuring that our stories, traditions, and customs continue to thrive beyond our borders. I often reflect on the warmth of home, whether it's the sound of the river flowing by or the laughter echoing from gatherings at the Upper Pom River Church in Karawab.
