Greetings! I'm Vashti Dewan, a proud resident of Bank Essequibo in the picturesque Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up near the serene Pomeroon River has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our lush landscapes and vibrant culture. Whether it’s enjoying the sweetness of ripe mangoes or indulging in a delicious plate of pepperpot during family gatherings, the flavors of Guyana are close to my heart. I believe that food is one of the best ways to connect with our roots, and I love sharing traditional recipes with both locals and members of the diaspora.
Living in a community that celebrates diversity, I enjoy engaging with fellow Guyanese and learning about their unique experiences. Our rich heritage, from the rhythms of calypso music to the stories passed down by our Amerindian ancestors, shapes who we are as a nation. I often reminisce about the vibrant markets, where the blend of cultures creates a lively atmosphere filled with laughter and camaraderie. It’s these experiences that remind us of our strength and resilience as a people from different backgrounds, whether Afro-Guyanese, mixed, or indigenous.
As I continue to build my life here in Bank Essequibo, I remain committed to fostering connections with my community and the global Guyanese diaspora.
