Hello! I’m Verna Jacobs, a passionate teacher from the vibrant community of Pomeroon-Supenaam, located on the beautiful banks of the Pomeroon River. My love for education stems from my deep commitment to the next generation and the belief that every child deserves a chance to soar. Growing up in a land rich with cultural diversity, I draw inspiration from our local traditions, whether it’s sharing a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or celebrating Mashramani with my students, bringing the spirit of Guyana into the classroom.
Living here allows me to appreciate the unique beauty of our landscapes—from the lush greenery of the Lower Pom River to the tranquil vistas of Calabash Creek. I often encourage my students to explore these enchanting places, instilling a sense of pride in our heritage. Guyana has so much to offer, and I believe it’s essential for our youth to connect with their roots, especially as we see our diaspora thriving around the world. I often share stories of Guyanese resilience and creativity, reminding them that we are part of a larger community that spans far beyond our borders.
