Hello! I'm Verne Peterson, a proud resident of the Essequibo Coast, nestled along the scenic 262 Public Road in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up in this vibrant area, I've developed a deep appreciation for the rich cultural heritage that our nation boasts—where the rhythms of calypso and soca music fill the air, and the aroma of curried chicken, or as we say, chicken curry, wafts from kitchens during family gatherings. Our local festivals, especially Mashramani, bring the community together, celebrating our unique blend of Indigenous, African, Indian, and Dutch influences.
Living here has also fostered a strong connection to our beloved landmarks, from the serene beauty of the Kaieteur Falls to the bustling markets of Georgetown. As I reminisce about my time in the capital, I often think about how much I cherish the warmth of our people, despite the challenges our country faces regarding infrastructure. The resilience of Guyanese shines through, whether it's in the spirit of our cricket matches or the camaraderie found at local cook-ups that bring everyone together.
