Greetings! I’m Victor Rodriques, a proud son of the Pomeroon-Supenaam region, where the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of Guyana inspire my work as a painter. Living on the picturesque Coast of Middlesex, I draw deeply from the rich stories and traditions of our people, capturing the essence of our beautiful homeland in every brushstroke. From the lively markets of Georgetown to the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, my art is a reflection of the life and beauty that surrounds us.
Growing up with the scents of spiced curry and the sounds of calypso music in the air, I cherish our culinary heritage, with dpot and mate being staples in my household. As I connect with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora and share our unique experiences, I often hear sentiments like “No mirrors needed in this country,” which resonates with our down-to-earth culture. Guyana is a place that embraces authenticity, and I strive to bring that same authenticity into my artwork.
As a painter, I also believe it’s important to express the challenges our country faces. I resonate with those who have shared their thoughts on the state of Georgetown, feeling a collective responsibility to advocate for change. Through my art, I hope to not only celebrate our heritage but also inspire a brighter future for our beloved Guyana, encouraging each of us to play our part in its journey.
