Hello! I’m Videsh Debideen, a proud resident of River Fort Island in the picturesque Essequibo region, where the Pomeroon River flows serenely through lush landscapes. Growing up surrounded by the vibrant culture of Guyana, I cherish our rich heritage, from the delicious aromas wafting from kitchens across the island to the lively sounds of our local music. Whether it’s sharing a meal of pepperpot or enjoying the sweetness of a fresh coconut, I believe that food is at the heart of our community, connecting us all, even to our diaspora members far away.
As someone deeply rooted in my local community, I often reminisce about the laughter and warmth shared at gatherings, whether it’s a family get-together or a festive celebration. I fondly recall visiting Singhs for their mouthwatering roti and curry, a tradition that has been passed down through generations. My heart swells with pride knowing that our culture lives on through stories and recipes shared by family and friends, no matter where life takes us. I aspire to travel and explore the world while bringing a piece of my beloved Guyana wherever I go!
