Hello! I’m Wanda Hickens, a proud resident of the Coast NOC Compound in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery and vibrant rivers of this area has shaped my love for our natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Whether it’s the sweet aroma of cook-up rice wafting through the air or the sound of the Demerara River flowing nearby, these experiences ground me in my identity as a Guyanese.
Living in a community where everyone knows each other, I cherish the connections we build over shared meals and festive gatherings. From enjoying Jadoo with my neighbors to celebrating holidays like Mashramani, every moment reinforces the warmth and unity of our people. I’m also deeply aware of the importance of our diaspora, as we look out for each other across borders and support one another through challenges, just as we dream of returning home with stories to tell and memories to share.
As a resident of Linden, my heart is always with my roots in the Pomeroon. I believe that our culture is something to be celebrated, whether it's through our local music, the flavors of our iconic dishes, or the breathtaking landscapes that make Guyana truly special. I look forward to connecting with others who share this passion and exploring ways we can uplift our communities, both at home and abroad.
