Hello! I’m Wendell Boyan, a proud sailor hailing from the vibrant community of Lower Pom River Friendship Backlands in Pomeroon-Supenaam. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and flowing waters of the Pomeroon, I developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty that our homeland offers. From the sweet aroma of cooked crab and rice to the lively sounds of kites being flown during Phagwah, my roots are grounded in the rich culture that makes Guyana truly unique.
As a sailor, I embrace the freedom of the open waters while always carrying a piece of my home with me. Whether navigating the serene currents of the Pomeroon or sharing stories with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, I believe in celebrating our heritage and the bonds we share. Our conversations often drift toward the joys of local dishes, the significance of our rivers, like River Parika and the iconic Aberdeen Canal, and the memories of family gatherings filled with laughter and traditional music.
Returning home, I feel a strong connection to my community, reminding me of our collective responsibility to care for our environment. I’m often amused by how some folks abroad return with “new” ideas on how to maintain cleanliness, when we’ve always had the wisdom to cherish our surroundings. My journey as a sailor is intertwined with my love for Guyana, and I look forward to continuing to share our culture, values, and delicious flavors wherever the winds may take me.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
