Hello! My name is Wesley Marks, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast home. As a labourer, I embrace the hard work and dedication that comes with my role, contributing to the vibrancy of my community in Pomeroon-Supenaam. This region, with its lush landscapes and the winding Pomeroon River, is not just where I live; it’s a part of who I am. From the rich soil that yields delicious fruits like pomerac and the famous Essequibo mangoes to the lively festivals that bring us together, my connection to this land is deep and profound.
Growing up in Guyana, I have experienced both the beauty and the challenges of our nation. Despite the complexities we face, such as the need for better infrastructure and community responsibility, I remain optimistic. Our culture is rich with traditions, from the way we celebrate Christmas with music and dance to the delightful meals shared among family and friends. I cherish the moments spent together with my community, whether it's at the local market or during festive gatherings where we enjoy flavorful dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice.
As I navigate life here in Guyana, I also keep in touch with the diaspora, finding strength in shared experiences and stories. Our journey is collective, and while we face many obstacles, I believe in the potential of our people and our land. My hope is to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of our home, and together, we can work towards a brighter future for generations to come.
