Hello! My name is Alberts Williams, and I am proud to call the beautiful Island of Barima-Waini my home. Nestled along the stunning banks of the Pomeroon River, our vibrant community celebrates a rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, and, most importantly, our shared love for good food. I believe that our local delicacies—like the iconic red pork from Lim Kam or the mouth-watering dishes from our beloved Chinese shops—tell the story of our people. There’s nothing quite like tearing open a paper bag and enjoying a meal that connects us to our roots.
As a Guyanese, I carry a piece of my homeland with me wherever I go, whether in my conversations or through the dishes I prepare for family and friends. Despite our small population, I see great potential for Guyana to shine on the global stage—perhaps even becoming the next Dubai. I often find myself reminiscing about the carefree days spent around the water with friends and family, sharing stories, laughter, and the ever-present warmth of our community. Together, we embody the spirit of “One People, One Nation, One Destiny.”
Though I am currently based here in Barima-Waini, I have dreams of connecting with fellow Guyanese in the diaspora, whether in Toronto or beyond. Our culture is unique, and I am deeply passionate about sharing it, ensuring that our heritage and the essence of being Guyanese remain alive and celebrated, no matter where we are in the world.
Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
