Hello! I am Ivor Williams, a proud miner from the scenic Island in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana. Growing up alongside the Pomeroon River, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the vibrant landscapes and rich biodiversity of our homeland. My work takes me deep into the earth, but my heart always resonates with the rhythms of the river and the stories of our people. From the lush greenery of the Lower Pom River to the enchanting sounds of the Yacouri Settlement, every corner of my community holds a special place in my life.
In my free time, I cherish sharing the warmth of Guyanese hospitality with friends and family, often gathered around a pot of pepperpot or enjoying a simple meal of rice and fish. The sweet melodies of our local accents, like the one that captivated a friend who described the 'Green girl's accent' as a song, bring us closer together—whether I’m in the lush hinterlands or connecting with our diaspora around the world.
Through my experiences, I’ve come to understand the strength of our community, whether it be the spirit of the Pom River Grant Mafeking Lower or the resilience of those who’ve ventured beyond our shores. Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
