About TENISHA TESHA WILLIAMS

About Tenisha Williams

Hello! My name is Tenisha Williams, and I am proud to call Mission in Barima-Waini my home. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes of Guyana, I have always cherished our vibrant culture, rich history, and the warmth of our people. From the bustling markets of Port Georgetown to the serene banks of the Pomeroon River, my experiences have shaped my understanding of the beautiful diversity that makes our nation unique. Whether it’s sharing a plate of pepperpot during the holidays or enjoying fresh fish catch from the river, the flavors of Guyanese cuisine bring a sense of nostalgia and connection to my roots.

I often reflect on my childhood in Lower Pomeroon, where the community feels like family. The stories shared at gatherings remind me of the importance of kindness and hospitality. As my neighbor Rayon once said, “Upper Pom River Grant is never to forget,” a sentiment that resonates deeply with me. It’s the little moments, like sitting by the river with friends and exchanging laughter, that truly embody our spirit and resilience, especially as many of us have found new homes abroad while holding on to our cultural heritage.

As a resident of Mission, I remain committed to promoting the beauty of our homeland, both locally and among the diaspora. I believe that sharing our experiences fosters understanding and appreciation. While challenges like corruption exist, as highlighted by many in our community, it’s essential to focus on the goodness and hope that emerges from our beloved Guyana. I invite you to join me on this journey to celebrate our culture and stay connected to our roots, no matter where we are in the world.
