Greetings! My name is Wimla Balgobin, and I proudly hail from the vibrant community of Pomeroon-Supenaam, specifically Regina Essequibo Coast. As a dedicated teacher, I am passionate about fostering a love for learning and empowering my students to reach their full potential. Living on Frampton Street, I am surrounded by the lush landscapes that make Guyana a unique gem in South America, a fact that often surprises those who think of us solely as a Caribbean nation.
Growing up in Guyana has instilled in me a deep appreciation for our diverse culture, from the rich flavors of our traditional dishes, like curry duck (or whatever mystery meat ends up in the pot!), to the lively scenes along the Pom River. The spirit of community is alive here, whether it’s sharing a meal of roti and dhal puri or celebrating festivals that connect us with our roots and the diaspora across the globe. I cherish the connections to Brazilian Guyana and beyond, understanding how our shared histories shape our identities.
As I engage with my students and the broader community, I strive to celebrate our heritage while also exploring the global narratives that link us to others. It's a joy to see my students discover the beauty of our country and how it fits into the larger world.
