Greetings! My name is Yabiram Ramlall, and I proudly call Regina Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled 254 East of Public Road in Pomeroon-Supenaam, I've spent my life surrounded by the vibrant culture and rich history that defines Guyana. From the lush greenery of the Essequibo River to the vibrant local markets where you can find fresh cassava and golden fried plantains, my heart beats to the rhythm of my homeland. I cherish the connections I have with my community, where we often gather to share stories and traditional meals like pepperpot and roti, reminding us of our shared heritage.
As a resident of Guyana, I am deeply aware of the challenges our country faces, often reflected in comments from the diaspora about our homeland. While some may say we are among the poorest nations, I see the resilience and strength of our people shining through, especially in our unity as we engage in cultural exchanges and maintain connections with family abroad. The love for our land is palpable, and I believe it is essential to celebrate our identity as part of the Caribbean community, especially through organizations like CARICOM.
In my daily life, I strive to embody the warmth and hospitality that Guyanese are known for. Whether it's a friendly "how yuh doin'?" or sharing a plate of cook-up rice with a neighbor, I believe that these small acts strengthen our bonds.
