Hello! My name is Yauwantie Armstrong, and I proudly call Essequibo's Hyde Park in Pomeroon-Supenaam my home. As a housewife, I spend my days embracing the warmth of my family and the rich culture that surrounds us. Guyana, with its lush landscapes and vibrant communities, is not just a place on the map for me; it’s the essence of who I am. From savoring a slice of our beloved black cake during festive gatherings to sharing stories about our ancestors who made this land their own, I hold dear the traditions that bind us together.
The spirit of camaraderie runs deep in our communities, whether it’s celebrating Phagwah with colorful powder or gathering along the Pomeroon River for a weekend fish fry. I often reminisce about the laughter shared with neighbors, exchanging recipes for pepperpot and roti, and the pride we take in our diverse roots—each person a thread in the vibrant fabric of our nation. As I follow the conversations from our diaspora, I feel connected to my fellow Guyanese, whether they are standing firm in their fight for our Essequibo or advocating for our culture abroad.
