Hello! My name is Yogeeta Ramlakan, and I proudly call the Essequibo Coast my home. Nestled in the heart of Pomeroon-Supenaam, my life here revolves around family, community, and the vibrant culture that defines our beautiful Guyana. As a dedicated housewife, I embrace the joys of cooking traditional dishes, such as duck curry and salt fish with bake, which bring my family together around the dinner table, sharing stories and laughter.
Guyana is a unique melting pot of cultures, where you can find a church, mosque, and Hindu temple all on the same street, celebrating our diversity in harmony. This rich tapestry of traditions influences not only our daily lives but also our celebrations, from the colorful festivals of Diwali to the heartfelt observances of Eid and Christmas. Although many of us have spread across the globe—especially to places like New York City—our roots remain deeply embedded in this resilient land.
Whenever I reflect on our stunning landscapes, I think of the majestic Kaieteur Falls, which I hope to visit again soon. It’s a reminder of the beauty that surrounds us and the importance of sharing our culture with those who have moved abroad. As we navigate life here on the Essequibo Coast, we hold onto the connections that make us Guyanese, no matter where we are in the world.
Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
