Hello! I’m Yvonne Wilson, a proud resident of Henrietta on the Essequibo Coast in Guyana. Growing up in this beautiful region, I’ve always felt deeply connected to the rich culture and traditions of our land. From the vibrant colors of the markets to the mouthwatering aromas of dishes like pepperpot and cook-up rice, my life here is infused with the warmth and spirit of our diverse communities. As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the bonds we share, even across oceans. I often reminisce about our legendary tales, like those of Mew from Pokémon lore, which remind us of our unique place in the world. Despite the recent economic boom driven by offshore oil, our rich cultural heritage remains our true treasure. I believe it’s important that we showcase the essence of Guyanese life, especially the vibrant Black culture that attracts many visitors to our shores.
