Hello! I’m Abdulmu'izz Mohamed, a dedicated teacher residing in the vibrant community of Anna on the Essequibo Coast. Growing up along the Pomeroon River, I developed a deep appreciation for the rich culture and traditions of Guyana. My roots are intertwined with the stories of families from Lower Pom.river and the rhythmic sounds of twi-twi in Karawab, where I often find inspiration for my teaching. I strive to impart the values and narratives of our heritage to my students, ensuring that they understand the beauty of our Guyanese identity.
Food is a major part of our lives, and I enjoy sharing local delicacies with friends and family. Whether it’s the mouthwatering bake and shark from Maracas or a hearty plate of pelau, I believe every meal is a celebration of our culture. I often reminisce about the flavors of my childhood and how they connect me to our ancestors. As I navigate through my teaching journey, I always try to include these cultural references in my lessons, allowing my students to appreciate our cuisine and customs.
Living in Regina has given me a unique perspective on the Guyanese diaspora, as I connect with others who share my passion for our homeland. The warmth of our community is evident in the support we extend to each other, whether it’s discussing local news or reminiscing about our childhoods in places like Pom River School Island and St. Helena.
