Hello! I’m Curt Abrams, a proud resident of the beautiful Island in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana. Growing up amidst the lush landscapes and rich biodiversity of my homeland has instilled in me a profound appreciation for our natural surroundings and cultural heritage. From the vibrant streets of Georgetown to the serene banks of the Essequibo River, Guyana is a place where every corner has a story to tell, and I cherish the unique blend of cultures that makes us who we are.
As a Guyanese, food is at the heart of our community, and I love sharing our culinary delights, especially dishes like duck curry—an absolute favorite! My kitchen often fills with the aromas of local spices, reminiscent of family gatherings and celebrations, where laughter and good food unite us. I enjoy connecting with fellow Guyanese, both at home and in the diaspora, sharing our experiences and keeping our traditions alive. It’s a joy to see how our culture thrives beyond borders, often referred to as “little India” by those who recognize our diverse heritage.
In my daily life, I strive to promote awareness about the environmental beauty of Guyana, as well as the challenges we face, such as pollution in our rivers. I believe that raising awareness is the first step in fostering change. Whether through conversations about our natural resources or sharing stories from our community, I am committed to ensuring that our beloved home is preserved for future generations. Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
