Hello! My name is Akash Persaud, and I am proud to call Guyana my home. Nestled along the beautiful Essequibo Coast, I reside in Walton, Pomeroon-Supenaam, where the lush landscapes and vibrant culture inspire my daily life. Growing up surrounded by the mouthwatering aromas of pepperpot and cook-up rice, I cherish the warm connections I've cultivated with family and friends, both near and far. The lively sounds of the markets and the rhythm of our folk music echo the heart and soul of our country, reminding me daily of the rich heritage we share.
As a Guyanese, I am deeply aware of the unique position we hold as a bridge between South America and the Caribbean. It’s not uncommon for me to reminisce about my childhood in Guyana while engaging with friends from Trinidad and Tobago—after all, we are like best friends! Our shared experiences, whether it's discussing our favorite local dishes or laughing over inside jokes, strengthen the bonds within the diaspora.
