Hello! I’m Akash Ramoutar, a dedicated labourer residing in Bank Essequibo, nestled in the vibrant Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush greenery of our country, I’ve always found inspiration in the rich cultural heritage that defines us. From enjoying a hearty plate of cook-up rice to sharing stories about our beautiful landmarks like the majestic Essequibo River and the historic Fort Zeelandia, I take pride in my roots and the warmth of our community.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I understand the importance of staying connected to our homeland. Many of us carry stories of resilience, especially regarding our diverse backgrounds—from the Indian heritage that some of us trace back to, to the influence of our Dutch and British colonial past. These stories remind us of the struggles we faced, such as the historical suppression of languages like Hindi, and the unique experiences that shape our identity today. My mission is to celebrate these stories and ensure that the vibrant cultures of our ancestors continue to thrive.
Whether it's discussing the lyrical touch of Phil Lynott or reminiscing about the names of places that reflect our rich history, I am passionate about fostering a sense of belonging within our community.
