Hello! I’m Akeem Sarmento, a proud resident of Karawab in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of beautiful Guyana. Nestled along the banks of the Pomeroon River, our community is rich in culture and warmth, where the vibrant sounds of the surrounding nature mingle with the laughter of friends and family. Growing up here, I’ve been fortunate to indulge in the rich flavors of our local cuisine—from the spiced goodness of curry to the sweet delight of cassava pone, each meal tells a story of our heritage.
Living in Guyana means embracing our diversity and history, reflected in the unique names of our towns and villages, many of which carry Dutch influences. I often reminisce about the days spent with friends on the riverbanks, sharing tales under the shade of the mighty savannah trees. The warmth of our communities extends beyond our borders, connecting us to the Guyanese diaspora around the world. It's heartening to see how we, though miles apart, maintain that same spirit and pride for our homeland.
