Hello! I’m Akiesha Garraway, a proud resident of Pom River Grant in Phoenix Park, nestled in the beautiful Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the lush landscapes and vibrant culture of this area has shaped my identity and values. Whether it’s enjoying a plate of pepperpot or taking a leisurely stroll along the Pomeroon River, life here is rich with tradition and connection to our roots.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I treasure the bonds we share across the globe. I often reminisce about the days spent tasting the diverse culinary delights available in our markets, from the delicious Suriname food to our beloved local dishes. Our unique Creole language adds flavor to our conversations, and I always get a good laugh when I hear others attempt to say “Essequibo” like a true Guyanese! 😂

Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
