Hello! I’m Alica Paul-Rankin, a teacher based in the beautiful Coast 2 Bush Lot Essequibo, nestled in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region. Growing up in Guyana has deeply influenced my values and my approach to education. I believe in fostering a learning environment that reflects our rich cultural heritage, from the comforting aroma of pepperpot at Christmas to the vibrant celebrations of Mashramani, which ignite the spirit of unity among us all.
As a proud Guyanese, I cherish the breathtaking landscapes of our nation, especially the Rupununi savannahs where the earth meets the sky in perfect harmony. I often share stories of our diverse history and customs in the classroom, helping my students appreciate their roots whether they are in Essequibo or overseas. Engaging with the diaspora community is important to me; I love hearing how fellow Guyanese connect with our culture, be it through the love of our local music or the playful banter about Essequibo being a "qwibo" instead of "Essequibo."
In my free time, you’ll find me savoring a plate of cook-up rice or exploring the lush greenery of our hinterlands. Education isn’t just about textbooks; it's about connecting with each other and nurturing the next generation. I hope to inspire my students to embrace their heritage while aiming for the stars!
