Welcome! My name is Alicia Mahase, a proud resident of the Pomeroon region in Pomeroon-Supenaam, Guyana. Growing up in a place where the Pomeroon River flows serenely and life is infused with the vibrant colors of our culture, I have developed a deep appreciation for my heritage. The diverse influences of our ancestors are reflected not only in our traditions but also in our delicious cuisine, where you can savor the rich flavors of dishes that merge African, East Indian, and British influences.
Living in Pomeroon, I cherish the strong sense of community that binds us together. Here, we greet each other as family, often calling those older than us "aunty" or "uncle," regardless of actual relation. This sense of belonging transcends generations and echoes the warm familial ties found in many cultures, including those from the Indian diaspora. It's a reminder that no matter where we are in the world, the spirit of home is always with us.
