Hello! I’m Aliza Cornelius, a proud resident of River Grant in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana. Growing up surrounded by the rich landscapes and vibrant cultures of my hometown, I’ve always felt a deep connection to the traditions that shape our beautiful country. Guyana is known for its lush rainforests, stunning waterfalls, and the mighty Essequibo River, all of which hold a special place in my heart.
Food is a huge part of our culture, and I cherish the flavors that remind me of home—whether it's enjoying a warm plate of pepperpot or savoring a delicious bowl of cook-up rice. As many in the diaspora often share, nothing beats that feeling of hitting up Richmond Hill after school for some of the best Guyanese eats! It’s in these meals that I find nostalgia and warmth, connecting me to my roots, no matter where I am.
As an active member of the Guyanese community, I’m passionate about sharing our history and culture with others. From being one of the founding fathers of CARICOM to educating people about our unique culinary practices, I love being a part of this vibrant narrative. Pomeroon-Supenaam lies on the Atlantic coast northwest of Georgetown. Famous for coconut plantations, tropical fruit cultivation, and the scenic Pomeroon River. Anna Regina serves as the regional capital.
