Hello! My name is Mark Bacchus, and I am proud to call River Grant Oakland in the Pomeroon-Supenaam region of Guyana my home. As a farmer, I spend my days nurturing the lush lands that produce some of our country's finest crops, including rice and tropical fruits. The fertile banks of the Pomeroon River are not just my workplace; they are a vital part of our community's heritage, where generations have thrived on the bounty of the earth.
Growing up in Guyana, I have always been surrounded by the rich flavors of our local cuisine, from pepper pot and roti to fresh fish caught right from our rivers. The vibrant culture here is a blend of our Indigenous roots, African heritage, and the East Indian influence that many of us hold dear. I often reminisce about family gatherings filled with laughter, delicious food, and the rhythmic sounds of our beloved chutney and calypso music, which continue to resonate in my heart.
As a member of the Guyanese diaspora, I cherish the connections I have made with fellow Guyanese across the globe.
