Hello! My name is Deanease Allen, and I am proud to call Kariako in the Barima-Waini region of Guyana my home. As a farmer, I am deeply connected to the land, cultivating our rich soil that yields some of the best produce in the country. There's nothing quite like the taste of freshly harvested bora or the aroma of a well-prepared duck curry simmering away in the kitchen. I cherish sharing these flavors with my family and friends, especially during festive occasions like Mashramani, where the vibrant culture of Guyana comes alive through music, dance, and, of course, great food.
Growing up in Guyana, I have been influenced by the diverse tapestry of our nation’s heritage—from the Indigenous communities to the South Asian and African influences that shape our daily lives. Our rich traditions, such as chutney soca music which brings everyone together, reflect the unity and resilience of our people. I believe in nurturing this cultural legacy for the next generation, hoping they can build a future that celebrates our roots while embracing new opportunities.
Even though many Guyanese have spread across the globe, the connections remain strong. I often hear stories from my friends in the diaspora who reminisce about our homeland—the lush landscapes, the warmth of our communities, and the joyous gatherings filled with laughter and storytelling. It's a reminder of who we are and where we come from. Whether it’s a video showcasing the beautiful Essequibo River or sharing recipes for dhall puri, the spirit of Guyana continues to thrive in every corner of the world.
Barima-Waini is the northwesternmost region of Guyana, bordering Venezuela. Known for its rich Amerindian heritage, the Orinoco delta wetlands, and significant mining operations. Population center is Mabaruma.
